What we do

Deaf Child Worldwide supports the creation of local, national and global family-led movements to campaign for positive change for deaf children and young people.

Deaf Children

Deaf Child Worldwide is:

  • a catalyst for change
  • a means to empower families
  • an advocate for deaf children’s rights
  • a network of organisations and individuals committed to sharing information and learning
  • working with partners on community-based projects for deaf children
  • working with all types of organisations to include deaf children in their work

Deaf Child Worldwide’s long-term programmes aim to provide a coordinated response to the needs of deaf children across a whole country or region. We have a particular focus on work in India, through our partner organisation, IDCS-India.

Working regionally
It is Deaf Child Worldwide’s long term aim to work regionally, coordinating work in several neighbouring countries. This will take time, but increases the opportunities for learning, information sharing and regional campaigning.

Working nationally
Our programmes start at a national level because this allows us to work with national level governments and raise awareness of deaf children’s needs as widely as possible. We also aim share information and network with organisations working across a whole country.

Working locally
Though our long-term aims are geographically wide, our work starts as very small. Working in partnership with local organisations at the grassroots helps us to learn about the issues affecting families and develop practical solutions that can help.

Responding to need
We will work differently in each country and area, as we always aim to understand and respond to the real needs of families and communities. All our work will be guided by our core principles, as explained in the Vision & values section.

The Small Grants Programme (SGP) offers project funding of up to £10,000 and supports locally registered organisations working with deaf children in developing and transitional countries.

You can read about some of the projects the SGP is hoping to support this year in the Projects section of the website.
